MÁTÉ VIZELI
Máté Vizeli was born on September 3, 1988, in Pécs, Hungary, but lived in Nagykanizsa until the age of fourteen.
He began playing the violin at the age of five at the Farkas Ferenc City Music School in Nagykanizsa, studying under Katalin Plánder and later Árpád Jakobovics. From the age of twelve, he also studied composition at the same institution with Zoltán Baráth.
During the 2002/2003 school year, he was a student of Kriszta Véghelyi at the Tóth Aladár Music School in Budapest.
In 2003, he was admitted to the Bartók Béla Secondary School of Music in Budapest, where he studied violin with István Kertész and composition with Miklós Kocsár and Miklós Csemiczky.
He graduated from high school in 2007 and was accepted into the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Violin Performance in 2010, followed by a Master of Arts in Violin Performance and Violin Pedagogy in 2013, studying under István Kertész and Ádám Banda.
In the same year, he was also admitted to the folk string MA program as a violist, studying under Zsolt Nagy and Péter Árendás, and completed his folk string teaching degree in 2015.
Since September 2013, Máté has been a violin and folk string teacher at the Tóth Aladár Music School.
He is the artistic director of Góbé, a band founded in 2007, which is now recognized as one of Hungary’s leading folk/world music ensembles.
He is also a founding member of the Simplicissimus Chamber Ensemble, where he performs on baroque violin and viola.
In 2018, he won first prize at the Hungarian Composers’ Association composition competition and was awarded the Junior Prima Prize in the category of folk art and public culture.
In September 2019, he enrolled in the Doctoral School of Education and Society at the University of Pécs, where he completed his doctoral coursework (absolutorium) in 2024.
During the 2020/2021 academic year, he served as a guest lecturer at the Folk Music Department of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music.
Since October 2022, he has been teaching folk viola at the Bartók Béla Secondary School of Music in Budapest.
